{"id":725,"date":"2023-08-22T06:38:09","date_gmt":"2023-08-21T20:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=1655845c7e68ddd78e3cae2b50820bc0"},"modified":"2023-08-22T06:38:09","modified_gmt":"2023-08-21T20:38:09","slug":"who-should-drive-the-bus-when-it-comes-to-aucklands-transport-planning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=725","title":{"rendered":"Who should drive the bus when it comes to Auckland&#8217;s transport planning?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Auckland Council\u2019s move to\u00a0explore seeking a law change giving\u00a0it more direct control of transport planning in the city is a sign of frustration with the current system.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0amalgamation of Auckland\u2019s eight council\u2019s into one in 2010\u00a0deliberately kept the delivery of transport, and all but the highest level of planning, out of the hands of elected officials \u2013 in contrast to everywhere else.<\/p>\n<p>Thus was born Auckland Transport, a \u201ccouncil-controlled organisation\u201d or CCO, with its own board of directors steered by an annual agreement with councillors of expectations and intent.<\/p>\n<p>The councillors also get to appoint the board, including two of themselves, but not the seat occupied by a representative of the government agency Waka Kotahi.<\/p>\n<p>It seems like a lot of influence on the end result.
