The Fyans Street boom gates are a thing of the past, with work to remove<\/a> the level crossing and de-tangle the complex and congested roundabout intersection nearing completion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The removal of the boom gates marks the start of a winter construction blitz<\/a> on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication, with coaches replacing trains between Geelong and Warrnambool until Sunday 25 August.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Work will now kickstart on the massive job of removing the existing track, installing the rail bridge, building the embankments, laying the new rail and realigning Fyans Street under the new infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Once complete in late August, the intersection will be level crossing and roundabout free, improving traffic flow for more than 17,000 vehicles that use the road each day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Later this month the three sections that will form the Fyans Street rail bridge will be moved into place, and the embankments leading to the bridge formed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Further down the line at Marshall the new station building has opened, providing an inside waiting room for passengers for the first time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The opening of the new station building with ticketing office and accessible toilets enables the existing structure to be removed, as work continues on the new bus loop and car parks at the station.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At South Geelong Station the existing station building is also being demolished, with passengers able to use a temporary ticket office, waiting room and toilets before the new station building is opened to the public at the end of the line disruption.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
