{"id":69186,"date":"2024-06-20T08:15:40","date_gmt":"2024-06-19T22:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=116638"},"modified":"2024-06-20T08:15:40","modified_gmt":"2024-06-19T22:15:40","slug":"new-stations-witched-on-for-crl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=69186","title":{"rendered":"New stations witched on for CRL"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/LIGHTS-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;\"><figcaption>Image\/CRL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityraillink.co.nz\/\">City Rail Link<\/a> (CRL) project is celebrating the arrival of Matariki with the simple flick of a switch to pierce the long winter nights of T\u0101maki Makaurau with walls of light.\u00a0<\/strong><span id=\"more-116638\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At five o\u2019clock on Tuesday, lights were switched on at CRL\u2019s striking new stations at Te Waihorotiu in the city centre and at Maungawhau on the North Auckland\/Western Line.<\/p>\n<p>City Rail Link Ltd\u2019s Chief Executive, Dr Sean Sweeney spoke about the important milestone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAucklanders already know we are delivering a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/city-rail-link-tracks-make-right-connection\/\">world class railway<\/a> and now they can see first-hand it is one unique to their city as well,\u201d Sweeney said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Matariki lighting highlights the stunning influence the project\u2019s Mana Whenua Forum and mana whenua artists have had on our designs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At Te Waihorotiu, thousands of aluminium fins wrap three sides of the impressive Wellesley Street entrance building, which forms the cornerstone of midtown\u2019s transformation and regeneration.<\/p>\n<p>At Maungawhau, 80 fins and triangles designed to show the tears of Ranginui, Sky Father, part of the station\u2019s overall telling of the M\u0101ori story of creation will be floodlit.<\/p>\n<p>Floodlighting at both stations will be temporary and will become permanent later this year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116640\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116640\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/LIGHTS-2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-116640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/LIGHTS-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/LIGHTS-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/LIGHTS-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/LIGHTS-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/LIGHTS-2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116640\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image\/CRL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The rise of the Matariki stars marks the start of the M\u0101ori new year.
