A 33-year-old man has been arrested after a major street in Melbourne’s<\/a> CBD was locked down during a police operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workers in surrounding office buildings were unable to leave after police inspected a white hatchback on Collins Street just after midday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police including the bomb squad were called to the scene and a man was quickly arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n

The man will be \ufeffinterviewed regarding “an ongoing Arson and Explosives Squad investigation”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ufeff”The matter is not terror-related and there is no immediate threat to community safety,” police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Bomb Response Unit has deployed to conduct a safety check on a vehicle in Collins Street.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A part of Collins Street was blocked off and some buildings put into lockdown shortly after midday today as a police operation unfolded in the area.
