{"id":60286,"date":"2024-06-05T15:47:42","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T05:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=60286"},"modified":"2024-06-05T15:48:02","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T05:48:02","slug":"commuter-chaos-as-melb-central-train-station-floods-crash-shuts-princess-fwy-lanes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=60286","title":{"rendered":"Commuter chaos as Melb Central train station floods, crash shuts Princess Fwy lanes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Melbourne-bound commuters are facing myriad delays and detours on Wednesday morning following the closure of a major City Loop station and a multi-vehicle crash on the Princess Freeway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A water leak has caused flooding at Melbourne Central Station with huge puddles across platforms forcing Metro to shut the station during peak times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The source of the leak has been located and water to the area shut off as of 8.30am, with clean-up set to take \u201cseveral hours\u201d through Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Services are running express through the station, with Melbourne Central-bound commuters being directed to take linking tram services from Flagstaff and Parliament stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Department of Planning and Transport spokesman confirmed the leak was not affecting train operations through the area, but that the station would remain closed for the clean-up of pedestrian walkways as a matter of safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are currently working to restore access to the station,\u201d Metro said on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPassengers wanting to travel to\/from the Melbourne Central area may use either Flagstaff or Parliament stations \u2013 or access other stations via Yarra Trams services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-51.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-51.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-51-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-51-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Melbourne Central Station is under water after a leak.
