The proposed transformation of Lane Cove West into one of Sydney’s major hyperscale data centre precincts has suffered a major setback, with three significant development proposals now abandoned following sustained community opposition, growing planning scrutiny and an increasingly challenging regulatory environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goodman Group was the first major developer to withdraw.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In September 2026, Goodman abandoned its proposed $1.2 billion Project Mars, a 90-megawatt data centre planned for 12 Mars Road, Lane Cove West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The proposal attracted 374 public submissions, with only nine supporting the development.
