The steel produced in the future Stegra plant near Boden, in northern Sweden, will be shipped to terminals in Belgium, Germany and England. The company chose PSA Breakbulk in Antwerp, Haeger & Schmidt Logistics in Duisburg and Thor Shortsea & Terminals in Hull as its logistics partners.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>With these latest deals, the logistics network of what will be the world’s first large-scale, near-zero-emission green steel plant continues to take shape. Stegra recently signed an agreement with Swedish rail operator Green Cargo<\/a> to move steel from the plant in Boden to the ports of Lule\u00e5, Skellefte\u00e5 and Ume\u00e5.<\/p>\n

\u201cStegra has selected three geographically complementary hubs and partners that provide access to important industrial regions and customer clusters\u201d, the company said in a press release. \u201cStegra will continue to develop its logistics network throughout Europe over time\u201d, it added.<\/p>\n

The Stegra plant<\/h2>\n

Formerly known as H2 Green Steel, the company rebranded to Stegra in 2024. Its future plant will produce steel in a different way than the traditional one. Instead of using coal to \u2018purify\u2019 the iron ore, which produces CO2 as a byproduct, Stegra will rely on hydrogen, which then produces water vapor instead.<\/p>\n

The first phase is expected to start in 2027, with full capacity, estimated at five million tonnes of crude steel per year, scheduled for 2030. In addition to taking care of transport for exports, rail will also play a key role in supplying iron ore to the site, with state-owned LKAB agreeing to provide and move it from its mines to Boden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
