UK infrastructure services and construction group Kier has been appointed by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to lead the design of improvements to Heaton Park Metrolink stop in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The scheme, which is being delivered as part of the Metrolink Stop Improvements Programme, will make the stop more accessible and enhance the customer experience.<\/p>\n
Kier will lead on the design of the project, which includes enhanced step-free access through the installation of ramps and larger lifts. Proposed improvements also include:<\/p>\n
Together, these proposed changes will create a more modern, accessible and welcoming facility for local residents and those visiting Heaton Park for leisure. <\/p>\n
Situated on the Bury line, the stop serves the largest park in Greater Manchester with more than 600 acres of parkland, and is frequently used for both small and large-scale events. <\/p>\n
Ian Davies, TfGM\u2019s network director for Metrolink, said: \u201cHeaton Park is a key stop on Greater Manchester\u2019s tram network, serving local residents and visitors to one of the city-region\u2019s most popular leisure destinations. These upgrades will help create a more modern, welcoming and accessible facility for the people who use it.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccessibility is a key priority for us and we will be making changes to the stop enabling easier access for passengers with mobility issues, people with pushchairs and those travelling with heavy luggage.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe work at Heaton Park forms part of a wider programme to improve stops across our network, creating a more comfortable, accessible and convenient experience for people travelling by tram in Greater Manchester.\u201d<\/p>\n
