Cemex UK and Victa Railfreight are celebrating a significant milestone after the two millionth tonne of aggregates was transported by rail from Dove Holes Quarry in Derbyshire between January and September 2026.<\/p>\n
The achievement was marked on Thursday 24 September when the two-millionth tonne departed the quarry aboard a service bound for Salford, underlining the continued importance of rail freight in supporting construction and infrastructure projects across the UK.<\/p>\n
The milestone comes at a time when the UK construction sector continues to experience challenging market conditions, making the achievement all the more significant for the teams and partners involved.<\/p>\n
Success has been driven by close collaboration between the Dove Holes operations team, Cemex Rail Logistics, Victa Railfreight’s terminal operators, and the freight operating companies responsible for delivering materials to customers nationwide.<\/p>\n

Victa Railfreight manages train arrivals, departures and shunting operations at Dove Holes, working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the safe and efficient movement of aggregates onto the national rail network.<\/p>\n
Rail continues to play a vital role in supporting Cemex’s transport operations and wider sustainability ambitions. Annually millions of tonnes of aggregates leave Dove Holes by train, helping to supply construction and infrastructure projects across the UK.<\/p>\n
