A big sum of money will go to port-rail connections in Spain. The Ministry of Transport has approved a financial programme that will mobilise nearly \u20ac2 billion to improve port accessibility in 2026. Until now, \u20ac1.2 billion is earmarked for multi-year rail-related projects: much more than previously announced.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The so-called Port-Land Accessibility Financial Fund includes 60 projects, of which 43 are related to rail. There are 21 last-mile projects, 25 general network projects and 14 terminal projects across the entire programme.<\/p>\n

As part of the scheme, rail infrastructure manager Adif has signed 16 agreements with the transport ministry for a total of \u20ac1.193 billion. Ports contribute some \u20ac460 million out of their own pockets. This sum relates to past, present and future investments.<\/p>\n

From \u20ac950 million to nearly \u20ac1.2 billion<\/h2>\n

This latest programme update strongly suggests that the investments earmarked for rail have been expanded. In 2025, Spain announced a total investment of over \u20ac950 million for road and rail infrastructure. Less than a year later, Adif has already signed agreements comfortably exceeding that figure.<\/p>\n

In total, Spain announced an investment of \u20ac7 billion through the fund in 2025. This money was to be spent between 2025 and 2029. Some projects have already been completed: the expansion of tracks at the Lezo station (Pasajes), the Adif terminal in Escombreras, the access to the port of Sagunto (Valencia), the rail access to the Cabezuela terminal in the port of C\u00e1diz, and the intermodal terminal in Marchamalo, Guadalajara.<\/p>\n

Spain is expecting the completion of other projects throughout the coming year. These include access to the outer port of Ferrol, the sidings of the Algeciras-Bobadilla line, and the new rail accesses to the ports of Seville and Castell\u00f3n.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
