<\/span>Steam working on the branch virtually<br \/>\nstopped, with only the occasional steam special hauled with C30T, and the rare standard<br \/>\ngoods on special workings.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"margin-left: auto; <\/span>It was a must have.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I purchased mine from Peter Pan, in Canberra<br \/>\nfor $285.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I painted my model in colours<br \/>\nclose to Lachlan Valley, and numbered it 3026.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>It was, and still is a solid model, with some shortcomings in detail, an<br \/>\nextended firebox into the cab, and openframe motor.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>But, this was the only model for some time,<br \/>\nuntil Trax brought out their excellent C30T, with bogie tender around<br \/>\n1988.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Quite a rare model if you can find<br \/>\none<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"margin-left: auto; <\/span>When I was shorting out one of the insulating<br \/>\nbushes on this axle, (drill a hole, and insert a wire that touches both the<br \/>\naxle, and the wheel casting), I then saw the phosphor bronze pickup wipers in<br \/>\nthe tender.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>So, the original builder had<br \/>\nchosen an inferior method for pickup that only collected power on 2 of the 3<br \/>\naxles.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>A good look at the tender shows a<br \/>\nshoddy assembly job, but this also explained why the axles were loose.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>The solder joins holding the axles were cracked.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Simple resoldering repaired.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>However, .in the process of reinserting the<br \/>\naxle, the axle box fell off.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Cause easily<br \/>\nidentified, no tinning on the brass, and the subsequent use of low-melt solder<br \/>\ndid not provide a firm connection of the whitemetal axle box casting.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">Body<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>It was then I found some bubbling paint on the cab to footplate<br \/>\njoin.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>This paint easily flaked off when prodded.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Cause most probably inadequate cleaning of<br \/>\nthe body prior to painting.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>The cab was<br \/>\nbent back into roughly square, and resoldered.
