This winter Victoria<\/a>‘s Big Build works progress on major rail projects, including removing level crossings and opening new stations that will keep Victorians moving for decades to come.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Inner Melbourne<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Metro Tunnel<\/a> is progressing towards opening next year, with critical testing of signalling, systems and operations continuing through winter. While construction on stations continues alongside testing, some roads, lanes and footpaths will be closed in the city with detours in place.<\/p>\n

Yarra Trams will be doing maintenance work in winter on\u00a0routes\u00a030,\u00a035\u00a0and\u00a086with no trams between Melbourne Central and Central Pier from Friday 12 July to Saturday 27 July; on\u00a0routes 30 and 35between Elizabeth Street and Nicholson Street from Sunday 16 August to Friday 30 August; and on\u00a0routes 1,\u00a03,\u00a05,\u00a06,\u00a016,\u00a064,\u00a067\u00a0and\u00a072\u00a0between Melbourne Central and Lincoln Square from Friday 26 July to Saturday 17 August.<\/p>\n

While these works take place,\u00a0La Trobe Street\u00a0will be closed to traffic in both directions between Harbour Esplanade and Queen Street from Friday 12 July to Saturday 27 July and in both directions between Queen and Nicholson streets from Friday 16 August to Friday 30 August.\u00a0Swanston Street\u00a0will also be closed in both directions between Victoria and Franklin streets from Friday 26 July to Saturday 17 August.<\/p>\n

Yarra Trams maintenance works will also take place in the city on routes 19,\u00a057\u00a0and\u00a059, with no trams between Flinders Street Station and Queen Victoria Market from Friday 30 August to Monday 16 September. During this time,\u00a0Victoria Street\u00a0will be closed to traffic in both directions between Therry and Peel streets, and\u00a0Elizabeth Street\u00a0will be closed to traffic in both directions between Therry and Queensberry streets.<\/p>\n

Melbourne\u2019s west<\/h2>\n

Metro Tunnel testing will mean buses replace trains from North Melbourne to Sunshine stations on the\u00a0Sunbury Line\u00a0on weekends in mid June and late July.<\/p>\n

\n

Yarra Trams maintenance work to replace tracks and upgrade poles and powerlines means buses will replace trams on\u00a0Route 82\u00a0between Moonee Ponds and Footscray Station and on\u00a0Route 57\u00a0between Sandown Road and Central Park Avenue from Friday 28 June to Monday 15 July.\u00a0Maribyrnong Road\u00a0will be closed during this time between Union Road and Navigator Street.<\/p>\n

Melbourne\u2019s east<\/h2>\n

New stations at Ringwood East and Croydon will open this year and the Lilydale Line will become Melbourne\u2019s first boom-gate-free train line in early July. Major construction also continues to remove the\u00a0Dublin Road<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Coolstore Road<\/a>\u00a0level crossings.<\/p>\n

While this work is completed, buses will replace trains between Ringwood and Lilydale on the\u00a0Belgrave and Lilydale lines\u00a0between late May and early July.<\/p>\n

Construction of\u00a0Suburban Rail Loop<\/a> is also continuing, with crews working across all six station locations between Cheltenham and Box Hill, and at the Heatherton train stabling facility site. To get this work done, some lanes and roads will be closed on Whitehorse Road\u00a0and\u00a0Station Street\u00a0in Box Hill and the\u00a0Burwood Highway\u00a0in Burwood.<\/p>\n

Melbourne\u2019s south east<\/h2>\n

This winter, new train stations will open in East Pakenham, Pakenham and Parkdale. Pakenham will be\u00a0level crossing<\/a>\u00a0free, and boom gates will also go at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale. While this work continues, buses will replace trains at times in July and August on sections of the\u00a0Frankston\u00a0and\u00a0Stony Point lines.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Metro Tunnel Project<\/a>\u00a0train testing will mean buses replace trains on the\u00a0Cranbourne\u00a0and\u00a0Pakenham lines\u00a0between Caulfield and Westall on some weekends in June and July. Affected passengers can change at Caulfield for Frankston Line trains to the city.<\/p>\n

Suburban Rail Loop<\/a>\u00a0construction continues and some lanes and roads will be closed between June and August, including overnight closures on Dingley Bypass in Heatherton and lanes closed on the\u00a0Nepean Highway\u00a0in Highett.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
