For the quarter, income from railway operations was <span class=\"xn-money\">$808 million<\/span>\u00a0and diluted earnings per share were\u00a0<span class=\"xn-money\">$2.32<\/span>. These fourth quarter results include a\u00a0<span class=\"xn-money\">$150 million<\/span>\u00a0charge associated with the incident in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Eastern Ohio<\/span>\u00a0inclusive of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-money\">$76 million<\/span>\u00a0in insurance recoveries.<\/p>\n<p>Adjusting for the effects of the incident charge, fourth quarter results included income from railway operations of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-money\">$958 million<\/span>\u00a0and diluted earnings per share of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-money\">$2.83<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Norfolk Southern President and Chief Executive Officer\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Alan H. Shaw<\/span>\u00a0said, \u201cThe fourth quarter marked the end of a challenging, yet transformational year for Norfolk Southern.
