MSC and V\u00f6cklamarkter Holzindustrie (VM Holz) will build a new terminal in Austria for the handling and transport of timber products. With an investment of \u20ac170 million, the Rail Intermodal Terminal Austria (RITA) is expected to start operations in 2029.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The terminal will be built within VM Holz\u2019s premises in V\u00f6cklamarkt, northwest of Salzburg. \u201cThe site already has its own rail connection. RITA will utilise these existing resources to consolidate rail logistics, warehousing, and operational processes at a single location\u201d, the company said.<\/p>\n

The future MSC-managed terminal will feature five 740-metre rail tracks for loading and unloading, a 22,000 square metres warehouse and a container maintenance site. Once the site is operational, VM Holz plans to increase its annual log processing from the current 680,000 to 850,000 cubic meters by 2029.<\/p>\n

In addition to the five tracks mentioned above, the terminal will also have four electric log gantry excavators and two dedicated log rail tracks, which should be commissioned in 2028. In addition, the project includes the installation of electric truck charging stations \u201cand other infrastructure for 20 electric trucks\u201d, VM Holz underlined.<\/p>\n
