{"id":532525,"date":"2026-09-07T18:24:18","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:24:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=199548"},"modified":"2026-09-07T18:24:18","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:24:18","slug":"emr-extends-digital-pay-as-you-go-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=532525","title":{"rendered":"EMR extends Digital Pay As You Go trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">East Midlands Railway (EMR), operated by Transport UK, is extending its pioneering Digital Pay As You Go trial for a further 12 months after more than 27,000 journeys were completed through the scheme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trial, which operates between Leicester, Derby and Nottingham, uses GPS-based technology within the EMR app to automatically track customers\u2019 journeys and calculate the correct fare for their travel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike traditional rail ticketing, customers taking part in the trial do not need to select and purchase a ticket before travelling. Instead, the technology tracks their journey through the EMR app and automatically calculates the appropriate fare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since launching, 1,492 customers have been part of the trial, with 27,009 Pay As You Go journeys taking place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Digital Pay As You Go app has also received a customer satisfaction rating of 4.4 out of 5, highlighting the positive response to the simpler way of paying for rail travel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trial forms part of a wider industry programme, supported by the Department for Transport, exploring smarter and more flexible ticketing options for rail customers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"An update from Neil Grabham, Interim Managing Director: Extension of EMR&amp;apos;s DPAYG trial\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6TTZ0QCh5-0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neil Grabham, interim managing director at East Midlands Railway, said: &#8220;Reaching more than 27,000 journeys is a fantastic milestone and, alongside a customer satisfaction score of 4.4 out of 5, shows that customers are responding positively to a simpler and more flexible way of paying for rail travel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be extending the trial for a further 12 months, giving even more customers the opportunity to experience Digital Pay As You Go and with no limit on the number of people taking part we want as many people as possible to try out this new way of buying tickets with us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe technology is designed to take away some of the complexity of rail ticketing.
