The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is intensifying efforts to create a seamless transportation network between Lagos and Ogun states. This initiative involves updating the Lagos Strategic Transport and Mobility Master Plan (LSTMMP), initially developed in 2009 and updated in 2014, to address changes in demographics and travel demands.<\/p>\n

The 2014 STMP proposed six rail lines, including three from Ogun State: the Red Line from Agbado to Marina, the Yellow Line from Otta to Iddo, and the Purple Line from Redeem to LASU-Ojo. The update will involve data collection through surveys in designated Traffic Analysis Zones (TAZs) to understand travel behaviour and ensure a sustainable transportation system for the growing megacity region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The National Railway Company of Congo (SNCC, SA) has secured funding to renew 81 km of the main track and 9 km of station tracks. This project also includes installing track equipment between the Divuma and Dilolo Border stations.<\/p>\n

South Africa: Launch of Operation Vulindlela Progress Report<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Director-General (DG) in the Presidency Phindile Baleni says Operation Vulindlela has made significant progress in reforming the economy since its announcement nearly four years ago.<\/p>\n

Operation Vulindlela<\/a> is a government-driven initiative aimed at accelerating the implementation of structural reforms in key sectors to achieve inclusive growth in the economy.<\/p>\n

With regard to Logistics \u2013\u00a0Operation Vulindlela<\/a> is aimed at growing exports in the country through the improvement of efficiency.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreater private participation in port terminal operations has been enabled and the freight rail network is being opened to competition. These reforms will allow more volumes to be transported via rail and support export growth while making our logistics systems more efficient and competitive.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Freight Logistics Roadmap, which was adopted by cabinet in December last year, continues to guide the implementation of these reforms,\u201d the DG said.<\/p>\n

NRZ Clarifies Status of Potential Deal with China Railway International Group<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Despite various media reports, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) confirms that no deal with China Railway International Group (CRIB) has been signed yet. CRIB is currently in Zimbabwe to conduct a feasibility study until the end of May, particularly targeting railway infrastructure and rolling stock.<\/p>\n

As part of the feasibility study, CRIB is assessing what needs to be done to improve NRZ\u2019s infrastructure, evaluating current rolling stock and visiting NRZ\u2019s workshops in Bulawayo. Once this assessment is complete, CRIB will provide a report which will guide the potential arrangement of a deal.<\/p>\n

The USD 533 million is an estimated figure that NRZ believes would be required to completely refurbish infrastructure and rolling stock.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLa Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nationale des Chemins De Fer Du Congo (SNCC) confirms that the repair work on the collapsed Lwizi bridge is receiving urgent attention. Currently, a shunting locomotive is en route from Lubumbashi, and it is hoped that it will be able to cross to the other side of Kalemie to facilitate the supply of materials needed for the repairs.\n

Officials are still in the process of investigating what needs to be done to inform the contractor, who has already been appointed.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
