{"id":52349,"date":"2024-05-24T16:37:19","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T06:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=52349"},"modified":"2024-05-24T16:37:19","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T06:37:19","slug":"flooding-blocks-trains-between-scotland-and-north-west-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=52349","title":{"rendered":"Flooding blocks trains between Scotland and north-west England"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Thousands of train passengers are suffering disruption as a major line between England and Scotland is closed due to flooding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The West Coast Main Line between Carlisle and Lockerbie is blocked, National Rail Enquiries said.<\/p>\n<p>Major disruption is expected to continue for the rest of Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Operators including Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express, ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper are affected.<\/p>\n<p>Avanti West Coast told passengers: \u201cPlease do not attempt to travel with us between Preston and Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really sorry if this affects your journey today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company told ticketholders they can travel with other operators such as LNER on the East Coast Main Line, postpone their journey or request a refund.<\/p>\n<p>TransPennine Express commercial director Darren Higgins said: \u201cDue to flooding on the railway line north of Carlisle, train services are significantly disrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe safety of our customers and colleagues is our priority and we are urging customers not to travel between Manchester, Liverpool (or) Preston to Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone planning on travelling by train today can choose to defer their travel or claim a refund.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ScotRail services between Carlisle and Glasgow Central are expected to start\/terminate at Dumfries.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of train passengers are suffering disruption as a major line between England and Scotland is closed due to flooding.
