Upcoming weekend closures have been announced by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which will affect the Outer Harbor and Gawler rail lines in June 2024 . The planned works are essential for maintaining and upgrading the railway infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Outer Harbor line will see a partial closure from the first service on Saturday, 1 June 2024, through to the last service on Sunday, 2 June 2024. This interruption is necessary to facilitate works associated with the Port Dock Railway Line Project. During this period, train services will not be operational between Woodville and Outer Harbor stations. However, substitute bus services will be available, covering all stops to connect passengers with ongoing train services from Woodville onwards. Normal train operations are set to resume on Monday, 3 June 2024, from the first service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Grange line will remain unaffected and will continue to operate as per the normal schedule between Adelaide and Grange Railway Stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The temporary closure on the Outer Harbor line allows the project team to conduct comprehensive testing of the rail signalling system and drainage, as well as other rail infrastructure works which require an absence of active train operations. Over the weekend, testing will also commence on the newly established one-kilometre spur line leading into Port Adelaide, in readiness for more testing and driver training ahead of the line\u2019s formal launch later in the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the following weekend, the Gawler rail line will undergo a complete shutdown from 9pm on Friday, 7 June 2024 until the last service on Monday, 10 June 2024, over the King\u2019s Birthday long weekend. The closure is slated for extensive maintenance works including station enhancements, signalling maintenance, and level crossing and infrastructure upgrades. As with the Outer Harbor line, substitute buses will replace trains, servicing all stops between Adelaide Railway Station and Gawler Central Railway Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To assist attendees of the Barossa Cup at the Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club on Monday, an additional temporary bus stop will be operational near the venue. Maintenance work during the closure will also focus on the Hawker Street level crossing in North Adelaide to upgrade and improve its safety features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The works across both lines have been strategically scheduled during weekends and public holidays to minimise disruption to regular weekday commuters who travel for work or school. Nevertheless, some delays can be expected, and road users may face detours and bus stop closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Train users and the general public are advised to allow additional travel time and to visit the Adelaide Metro\u2019s official website to check live updates on timetables and to use the journey planner for alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
