They are trainspotters of a different kind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 8.31pm on Friday a colourful group of locals will gather at the Ringwood East railway station to farewell the last train to depart the station before it is demolished as part of the government\u2019s Big Build. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group plan to sit on the platform and reminisce about the station with a cup of tea and some snacks before waving off the last inbound and outbound trains. <\/p>\n\n\n

Residents have organised an event to celebrate the closure of the Ringwood East station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The station, which opened in 1925 and was rebuilt in 1984, had limited carparking<\/a>, low lighting, troubled roads<\/a> and its fair share of crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last outbound train is expected to pass through the station at 7.37pm and the last inbound train is set for 8.31pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The station will officially close at 8.30pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ringwood East residents will not be without a station for long, with the new station set to open in early July. <\/p>\n\n\n

The Dublin Rd station will feature a main concourse and second entry, platforms that are accessible by lifts and stairs, and upgraded pedestrian and cycling paths.<\/p>\n\n\n

There will also be a new car park with 260 car spaces next to the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The station has been commissioned as part of Victoria\u2019s level crossing removal projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
