Northern is expecting a record number of passengers to travel through Leeds station over the bank holiday weekend.<\/p>\n
More than 113,200 passengers used the station over the bank holiday weekend in August last year.<\/p>\n
That was a record high and up 5% on the previous year, but train operators are expecting that figure to be surpassed this weekend.<\/p>\n
Northern is preparing for an influx of passengers as tens of thousands of music fans will be arriving for Leeds Festival.<\/p>\n
Shuttle buses run to the festival site from Sovereign Square in Leeds, just a short walk from the station.<\/p>\n
The vast majority of Northern train services will be running as planned this weekend, but they will be busier than usual and passengers should allow extra time for their journeys.<\/p>\n
Alex Hornby, Commercial and Customer Director at Northern, said: \u201cWe\u2019re prepared for a busy bank holiday weekend and will be working hard to keep services running smoothly so we can get thousands of customers where they need to go.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also deploying extra staff to provide support and assistance to anyone who needs it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Staff at Leeds station are now wearing yellow vests to make them easier to spot for anyone who needs support, directions or advice.<\/p>\n
David Dubaj-Downs, Network Rail’s Head of Customer and Station Transformation, said: \u201cLeeds station is ready to welcome significant numbers of passengers this weekend, with additional resources in place and teams on hand to help passengers with their journeys and keep people moving safely.<\/p>\n
\u201cPassengers should look out for our station colleagues wearing their new bright yellow tabards, making it easier to find a helping hand, ask for travel information or get assistance when they need it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Engineering works will affect some services in Yorkshire over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Trains running between Selby and York will be diverted via an alternative route and will not call at Sherburn-in-Elmet, Church Fenton and Ulleskelf.<\/p>\n
There will be no trains between York and Sheffield, and services will be altered between Hull and Halifax and Leeds.<\/p>\n
Buses will be provided between: Selby and York, York and Moorthorpe, and Selby and Micklefield.<\/p>\n
Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2,650 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.<\/p>\n
