{"id":519754,"date":"2026-08-26T00:16:56","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T14:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=198801"},"modified":"2026-08-26T00:16:56","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T14:16:56","slug":"essential-railway-upgrades-on-the-weaver-line-this-september","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=519754","title":{"rendered":"Essential railway upgrades on the Weaver line this September"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/infrastructure\/essential-railway-upgrades-on-the-weaver-line-this-september\/\" title=\"Essential railway upgrades on the Weaver line this September\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/25131601\/Overground-train-3_cropped-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/25131601\/Overground-train-3_cropped-485x360.jpg 485w, https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/25131601\/Overground-train-3_cropped-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Network Rail will carry out essential overhead line and structure renewals between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt\/ Enfield Town for two consecutive weekends in September, helping to maintain a safe, reliable and resilient railway for passengers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passengers planning to travel&nbsp;between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt\/Enfield Town on the Weaver line, or on Greater Anglia services via Seven Sisters, on the weekends of 19 and 20 September and 26 and 27 September 2026 are being encouraged to check before they travel and to leave extra time to complete their journeys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A range of essential work will take place along the Weaver line while it is closed, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Carrying out extensive overhead line renewals including replacing ageing wires, structures and concrete bases, reducing the risk of future faults and disruption.<\/li>\n<li>Replacing sections of worn-out track between Turkey Street and Theobalds Grove<\/li>\n<li>Carrying out essential maintenance along the route, including clearing vegetation and inspecting and repairing railway structures and equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Repairing the Cadent gas pipe bridge at Stoke Newington, using the railway closure to complete the work and avoid further disruption.<\/li>\n<li>Preparing for future platform improvements at Seven Sisters station<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Travel arrangements for London Overground passengers<br \/><\/strong>London Overground services will not run between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt\/Enfield Town on the affected weekends. All stations in between these locations will also be closed. &nbsp;<strong>Rail replacement bus services will be in operation during these closures.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passengers travelling between&nbsp;<strong>Bethnal Green and Cheshunt<\/strong>&nbsp;will be able to change at&nbsp;<strong>Hackney Downs<\/strong>&nbsp;and use a Greater Anglia service to\/from Cheshunt via Tottenham Hale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NOTE: Passengers travelling to&nbsp;Tottenham Hotspur Stadium&nbsp;for the Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa fixture on Saturday 19 September or the&nbsp;BIGBANG concert&nbsp;on Saturday 26 September are encouraged to plan ahead and check before travelling to allow extra time for their journeys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Travel arrangements for Greater Anglia passengers<br \/><\/strong>Greater Anglia services that normally operate via&nbsp;<strong>Seven Sisters<\/strong>&nbsp;will be diverted via&nbsp;<strong>Tottenham Hale<\/strong>&nbsp;on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September and Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passengers are encouraged to check journey information with&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/plan-a-journey\/\"><strong>tfl.gov.uk\/plan-a-journey<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greateranglia.co.uk\/\"><strong>www.greateranglia.co.uk<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;before travelling and allow extra time to complete their journeys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Joe Kennedy, Infrastructure Director for Network Rail Anglia, said:<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8220;This work is part of our ongoing programme to renew and maintain the railway between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt\/Enfield Town, helping to keep the route reliable and fit for the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Bringing this work together over two weekends means our teams can carry out a significant amount of work safely and efficiently, while avoiding the need for further closures, and we&#8217;ll work with our partners to minimise disruption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I\u2019d like to thank all our customers for their patience while we carry out this important work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rory O&#8217;Neill.
