As demand grows for the next generation of engineers and technical professionals, Hitachi Rail and education charity EDT worked together to inspire more young people to consider careers in STEM.<\/p>\n

EDT delivered its Industrial Cadets Bronze Routes into STEM programme, with one of the industry days hosted by Hitachi Rail. The company welcomed 20 young people to one of its London depots, Bounds Green. The visit was an immersive experience to see first-hand the varying roles and career paths involved in the maintaining some of the UK\u2019s most advanced trains. The exclusive tour also demonstrated how the depot team works collaboratively with customers to keep vital rail services running effectively and efficiently.<\/p>\n

EDT and Hitachi Rail worked together to create a day that was designed to build confidence, raise aspirations and showcase the wide range of exciting career opportunities available within Hitachi Rail and the wider engineering and transport sectors.<\/p>\n

A particular highlight was a \u2018careers carousel\u2019, where students met employees from across Hitachi Rail to hear first-hand about their career journeys, ask questions and gain valuable advice about entering the industry. These conversations helped bring STEM careers to life, demonstrating the many different routes into engineering and the diverse opportunities available within one of the UK’s leading rail organisations.<\/p>\n

Through this activity, Hitachi Rail has helped bridge the gap between education and industry, enabling students to connect classroom learning with real-world careers while developing a greater understanding of the skills and attributes employers value.<\/p>\n

This visit is part of Hitachi Rail’s wider commitment to STEM, technical education and social value to inspire the next generation of engineers. From co-founding the \u00a310 million South Durham University Technical College and donating equipment to support London College’s rail engineering courses, to backing more than 100 completed apprenticeships across its UK sites, Hitachi Rail is helping build clear pathways into high-value engineering careers.<\/p>\n
