A Geelong-bound V\/Line train has been evacuated at Corio station after smoke from an oil leak forced the early termination of the 4.09pm Southern Cross service yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers were urgently removed from the train and the service terminated at Corio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers interviewed reported a strong acrid smell (toxic) with fumes and smoke filling the passenger carriage. Some passengers reported the issue began much earlier on the journey however the train continued on the journey despite the smoke filling a carriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was on this train and my eyes were watering from the smell of smoke inside the train from around Footscray. When I got off (at Lara) I was gobsmacked that the train was still training with the very obvious thick black smoke coming out of one of the end carriages. (Passenger)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

This incident was the second major incident of the day with a track fault causing major issues earlier in the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

V\/Line services have now become so unreliable some are calling for an independent enquiry into the management of the passenger rail operator.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
