{"id":51245,"date":"2024-05-23T07:51:28","date_gmt":"2024-05-22T21:51:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=116336"},"modified":"2024-05-23T07:51:28","modified_gmt":"2024-05-22T21:51:28","slug":"fyans-street-bridge-takes-shape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=51245","title":{"rendered":"Fyans Street bridge takes shape"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RRR_GELU_WPD-_Fyans-Street-progress-April.jpeg\" alt=\"\" style=\"float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;\"><figcaption>Image\/Victoria&#8217;s Big Build<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The eight piers that will support the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/geelong-level-crossing-removal-gets-underway\/\">Fyans Street<\/a> rail bridge have been installed, as work continues on construction of the bridge structure that will replace the roundabout and level crossing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-116336\"><\/span>The central steel bridge span is taking shape at a temporary site near the level crossing, one of three pieces that will form the rail bridge over Fyans Street.<\/p>\n<p>The 400 tonne steel girders &#8211; that arrived in sections from Tasmania in March &#8211; have been connected by 27 smaller cross girders that form the base of the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks 114 precast concrete panels that form the floor of the steel girder bridge have been installed, with each panel weighing nearly one tonne.<\/p>\n<p>The central steel bridge will be flanked by two super T bridges that will raise the rail over the realigned Fyans Street intersection once the roundabout and level crossing are removed for good later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The concrete deck of the bridges have now been poured, with work progressing on access walkways and kerbs before the full bridge is moved into place.<\/p>\n<p>A new rail bridge will replace the Fyans Street level crossing, simplifying the five-way intersection.<\/p>\n<p>Extending Fyans Street to Breakwater Road will improve traffic flow for the more than 17,000 vehicles that use the intersection each day.<\/p>\n<p>The level crossing and roundabout removal will allow for improvements along Carr Street.
