CONSTRUCTION of HS2\u2019s Curzon Street station in Birmingham, Britain, formally started on January 24 with an official ceremony at the site of the future platforms.<\/p>\n
Contractor Mace Dragados Joint Venture (MDJV) has started on major earthworks to prepare the site for piling and foundation work this spring, with construction of the main station building due to start this summer. MDJV has been developing a detailed programme for the works since 2021.<\/p>\n
Work on the station fa\u00e7ade will begin in summer 2025, with construction of concourse steelwork and the roof likely to follow in autumn 2025. The internal fit-out of the seven-platform station will then start towards the end of 2025 and finish at the end of 2028. Operational testing and commissioning will run from summer 2026 to autumn 2028.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurzon Street will become one of the most environmentally-friendly stations in the world, and the gateway to Birmingham for future HS2 passengers,\u201d says British rail minister, Mr Huw Merriman.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe start of construction represents significant progress for the UK\u2019s largest infrastructure project, demonstrating real momentum in building the line that will transform rail travel for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
