Stage 3 of the Gold Coast\u2019s light rail system has opened to passengers, connecting Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At 6 am on Sunday (9 August), the first passengers boarded a tram service from Burleigh Heads, marking a milestone in the Gold Coast\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening of Stage 3 extends the G:link network by 6.7 kilometres and adds eight new stations, connecting more communities along the line to employment, education, healthcare, entertainment and other attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visitors, tourists and residents can now travel by tram from Burleigh Heads through Miami, Nobby Beach and Mermaid Beach to Broadbeach and onwards. It is now easier than ever to access the Gold Coast\u2019s beaches, hospitality precincts and shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cToday is about delivering the infrastructure that the growing community of the Gold Coast needs and ensuring that its residents and visitors have greater transport choices for years to come,\u201d Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday is about delivering for the Gold Coast and finally opening a project that local residents have been waiting far too long for,\u201d Mr Mickelberg said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
