{"id":50477,"date":"2024-05-21T20:37:36","date_gmt":"2024-05-21T10:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=50477"},"modified":"2024-05-21T20:37:36","modified_gmt":"2024-05-21T10:37:36","slug":"network-rail-restores-lanark-station-roof-with-the-help-of-the-railway-heritage-trust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=50477","title":{"rendered":"Network Rail restores Lanark station roof with the help of the Railway Heritage Trust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lanark station has been given a major boost following a significant investment by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Network Rail<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/railwayheritagetrust.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Railway Heritage Trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Work to carefully revamp the station\u2019s Grade B listed platform 2 building roof and canopy was completed at the end of 2023, extending the lifespan of each element by up to 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>Both structures had been in poor condition, with rotted timbers presenting the risk of the Georgian wired glazing panels slipping and causing injury.<\/p>\n<p>Engineers carried out significant rot repairs and installed new slate coverings, lead flashings and a modern proprietary \u2018twinfix\u2019 polycarbonate glazing system.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the building has been made wind and watertight for future tenants with Railway Heritage Trust contributing \u00a375k of grant funding towards the \u00a3310k project.<\/p>\n<p>Valerie McMillan, senior asset engineer, Network Rail, said: \u201cWe are delighted with the end result following the completion of works by our framework contractor CPMS, and sub-contractors Kerr Roofing and Eradakil Joinery and Preservation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to the Railway Heritage Trust for their grant funding which has contributed toward this project becoming a reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis completes our planned works at Lanark station which delivered the external restoration of the main platform 1 building, reinstatement of railings and renewal of the station access stairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tim Hedley-Jones, executive director of The Railway Heritage Trust said: \u201cWe are pleased to support Network Rail\u2019s restoration of the Platform 2 building at Lanark. The first station was opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1855 so it is an important part of the heritage of the town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phil Campbell, customer operations director with ScotRail who manage the station, said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to see the works completed at Lanark, securing the future for this historical station on the ScotRail network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScotRail is grateful for the significant investment made by Network Rail and the Railway Heritage Fund, enhancing the station environment, and improving the customer experience.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lanark station has been given a major boost following a significant investment by Network Rail and the Railway Heritage Trust.
