The Baltic Hub Container Terminal, which is located in the Polish Port of Gda\u0144sk, is expanding. It signed a 30-year lease with the port authority for a 26-hectare deepwater site. As a consequence, Gda\u0144sk can look forward to more intermodal facilities in the future.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Baltic Hub<\/a> will transform the plot into an intermodal transshipment hub. This will increase the terminal\u2019s operational capacity both on land and at sea, the Port of Gda\u0144sk says.<\/p>\n

With the deal signed and approvals secured, Baltic Hub can now develop the area. The terminal is planning to expand the rail infrastructure. This includes, for example, the construction of a second railway siding consisting of seven tracks. It will be capable of handling 750-metre trains.<\/p>\n

Alongside the new tracks, Baltic Hub will build new container storage yards. The work, says the port, will be carried out in phases.<\/p>\n

“The expansion of our rail terminal and increased storage capacity […] will strengthen our hinterland connections, enabling the transport of more containers by rail\u201d, commented Jan Van Mossevelde, Baltic Hub\u2019s Managing Director.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will increase connection efficiency, reduce reliance on road transport, and support the shift in freight patterns necessary to reduce emissions in our supply chains. At the same time, the investment will enhance our ability to deliver the reliability, adequate capacity, and sustainable operational efficiency expected by our shipping partners and cargo owners.”<\/p>\n

The Port of Gda\u0144sk has modernised 7.2 kilometres of road infrastructure and 10 kilometres of railway tracks in the area in recent years. This has improved accessibility to deepwater transshipment terminals.<\/p>\n

Baltic Hub boosts port position<\/h2>\n

“The signing of the lease agreement with Baltic Hub Container Terminal confirms the consistent implementation of the Port of Gda\u0144sk’s development strategy. Thanks to direct services to and from Asia, the port can further strengthen its position among the leading European ports,” said Dorota Py\u0107, President of the Port of Gda\u0144sk Authority.<\/p>\n

The port wants to boost freight flow stability as global supply chains are increasingly volatile. \u201cThis investment also aligns with the principles of sustainable development, creating conditions for shifting a larger portion of cargo from road to rail\u201d, Py\u0107 continued. \u201cThis solution supports more efficient and environmentally friendly supply chains and builds a strong position for the Port of Gda\u0144sk in competing with other European ports for services in Central and Eastern European markets, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Ukraine.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
