{"id":4980,"date":"2024-01-25T05:37:42","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T19:37:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=4980"},"modified":"2024-01-25T05:37:42","modified_gmt":"2024-01-24T19:37:42","slug":"emr-joins-forces-with-tech-firm-on-groundbreaking-safety-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=4980","title":{"rendered":"EMR joins forces with tech firm on groundbreaking safety project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">East Midlands Railway (EMR)<\/a> has teamed up with a tech firm on a ground-breaking project which aims to improve the safety and efficiency of train inspections.<\/p>\n<p>The DepotMATE project, which is being funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) and Innovate UK\u2019s First of a Kind scheme, is being delivered in partnership with One Big Circle \u2013 a Bristol-based tech firm that develops intelligent video, AI, and machine learning for the rail industry.<\/p>\n<p>The project will take advantage of One Big Circle\u2019s multi-award-winning Automated Intelligent Video Review (AIVR) cloud-based platform. The project will utilise high-resolution line scanning, thermal imaging, standard video cameras and acoustic sensors to remotely assess a train\u2019s condition as it enters and leaves the depot.<\/p>\n<p>This new approach negates the need for a time-consuming and more dangerous trackside manual inspection and will be used to monitor EMR\u2019s regional fleet of Class 170 and Class 158 trains.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Coney, Head of Engineering said: \u201cWe are always looking at how we can embrace new technologies to improve our fleet for our customers, therefore we are proud to be a key partner in One Big Circle\u2019s groundbreaking DepotMATE project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be great to see the project progressing and we are looking forward to analysing the results of the pilot to understand if the technology could be adopted on a wider scale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne Big Circle is delighted to be working with East Midlands Railway in the delivery of the DepotMATE project,\u201d says Emily Kent, co-founder of One Big Circle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is a fantastic example of how the First of a Kind competition enables SMEs to accelerate initial concepts into cross-industry collaborations.
