{"id":4964,"date":"2024-01-25T05:37:34","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T19:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=4964"},"modified":"2024-01-25T05:37:34","modified_gmt":"2024-01-24T19:37:34","slug":"women-in-rail-awards-2024-nomination-deadline-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=4964","title":{"rendered":"Women in Rail Awards 2024: Nomination deadline extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The nomination deadline for this year\u2019s highly-anticipated <a href=\"https:\/\/womeninrail.org\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Women in Rail Awards<\/a> has been extended to Friday, 2nd February 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Rail personnel now have an additional week to nominate their inspirational managers, friends, colleagues, peers and employers for the 13 award categories.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/womeninrail.org\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Women in Rail Awards<\/a> are designed to showcase and recognise the individuals and companies, large and small, who have made a significant contribution to improving gender balance, diversity and inclusion in the UK railway industry in line with the objectives of the joint <a href=\"https:\/\/womeninrail.org\/edi-charter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WR\/RIA EDI Charter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 judging panel comprises 18 industry professionals, seven of whom are first-timers including Telent CEO Jo Gretton and Network Rail Business Manager and Chair of the LGBT+ employee network Archway Shane Andrews MBE.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a significant gender imbalance in the rail sector which Women in Rail works tirelessly to address,\u201d says Jo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTelent is no different and we\u2019re working hard to attract more women to join us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the Marian Wright Edelman quote \u201cYou can\u2019t be what you can\u2019t see\u201d is so apt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf women don\u2019t believe they can succeed in the rail industry, they will work in other sectors and that is such a loss for UK rail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe awards are a great way to celebrate and recognise all the women who are breaking down barriers and showing others what fulfilling and rewarding careers can be had.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to be part of this year\u2019s judging panel and I can\u2019t wait to read all the brilliant nominations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shane adds: \u201cI\u2019ve been a supporter of Women in Rail for many years, from mentoring members to speaking at the annual conference, it\u2019s a fantastic organisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt very fortunate to be invited to attend the Women in Rail Awards last year and was in absolute awe of the nominees and winners, so to have been asked to be a judge feels a real privilege and one I didn\u2019t hesitate in saying yes to!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Initial judging focuses on the 700-word submitted nomination.
