Premier Jacinta Allan will resign from the top job ahead of an expected spill motion this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy Premier Ben Carroll yesterday said he would challenge for the leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Allan has led Victoria since she replaced Daniel Andrews in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jacinta Allan says she is “immensely proud” of what she has achieved in her time as premier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says she is thankful for the support of the public during her tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It has been the honour of my life to serve you,” she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The premier says she will give her unqualified support to Ben Carroll should he put his hand up as leader after she announced her resignation as leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am making this decision because it is the right thing by the Labor Party and the Victorian people,” she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I was prepared to put my record and my plan to a ballot of members as our rules allow.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I believe I would have won. But doing so this close to an election takes up valuable resources, including the most precious of one \u2014 time.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
