Greater Shepparton City Council would like to advise the Murchison Community and recreational groups of the upcoming project to complete essential maintenance and repair works to the Murchison Rail Trail Bridge over the Stuart Murray Canal, adjoining the Bendigo-Murchison Road. The completion of these important works will ensure compliance and safety for all user groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The construction timeframe is governed by Goulburn-Murray Water\u2019s (G-MW) winter irrigation \u201cshut down\u201d period of the Stuart Murray Canal, which is planned from mid-May through to mid-August each and every year. It is anticipated the construction will be completed over a six week duration during the Irrigation \u201cshut down\u201d period. The bridge will be closed to all public use, including pedestrians and cyclists, during this time.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Depending on rain and unfavourable weather, the Stuart Murray Canal may be \u201cre-opened\u201d by G-MW, potentially delaying the bridge renewal works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The works are planned to commence on Monday 20 May 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The bridge renewal works include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Setting up site,\u00a0closure of the bridge to public use,\u00a0establishment of traffic\u00a0and pedestrian\/cyclist\u00a0management measures and \u2018temporary\u2019 removal of fencing,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Timber Pile Repairs including pile ‘wrap and pour’, and splicing new timber sections into existing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Supply and replace timber crossheads, bolts and fixtures,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Application of timber preservation treatments and associated works,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Reinstatement of fencing and the surrounding site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Re-opening of the bridge to public use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Council requests user groups and the community to be informed and to plan their journey and any events around these essential bridge works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
