She also shared views&nbsp;from Orion&nbsp;captured by the crew, including Earthrise, detailed images of the lunar surface, and a solar eclipse&nbsp;observed&nbsp;from deep space.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Artemis II successfully&nbsp;demonstrated&nbsp;Orion\u2019s performance&nbsp;during its first crewed deep space mission. The mission tested Orion\u2019s life support&nbsp;systems, crew interfaces, navigation, and reentry systems, providing data that will help teams prepare for&nbsp;upcoming&nbsp;Artemis missions.&nbsp;The crew&nbsp;also&nbsp;completed a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/missions\/2026\/04\/04\/artemis-ii-flight-day-4-crew-completes-manual-piloting-demonstration\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manual piloting demonstration<\/a>,&nbsp;evaluating&nbsp;Orion handling&nbsp;and&nbsp;proximity operations that will inform&nbsp;future&nbsp;rendezvous and docking activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it really hit me at T-minus 10 seconds,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cThat\u2019s&nbsp;when we go into \u2018terminal count,\u2019 meaning there\u2019s just no turning back.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rodriguez emphasized that&nbsp;Orion\u2019s success on&nbsp;Artemis II was the result of global teamwork across NASA centers, industry partners, and international agencies. She highlighted the European Service Module, provided by ESA (European Space Agency), which supplies Orion with power, propulsion, oxygen, water, and other resources needed during flight. In the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/missions\/artemis\/orion\/inside-nasas-new-orion-mission-evaluation-room-for-artemis-ii\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Orion Mission Evaluation Room&nbsp;at Johnson<\/a>, more than 300 people supported the mission,&nbsp;monitoring&nbsp;spacecraft&nbsp;systems and standing ready to respond in real time.&nbsp;Among the mission\u2019s more personal touches was Rise, Orion\u2019s zero-gravity indicator. The plushie, created by a student through an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/general\/moonmascot\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Artemis II design competition<\/a>, carried a memory card&nbsp;containing&nbsp;over 5.6 million names of space fans who signed up through NASA&#8217;s \u201cSend Your Name with Artemis\u201d effort.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is what the crew wanted \u2013 to bring all of us with them on this mission,\u201d Rodriguez said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The crew also designed the mission patch with a hidden detail: viewed from a distance, the artwork reads \u201call\u201d \u2013 a deliberate tribute to everyone who made the mission&nbsp;a success.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a village that makes this possible, absolutely,\u201d she said.\u00a0Looking ahead,\u00a0Rodriguez discussed preparations underway for\u00a0upcoming\u00a0Artemis missions.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission\/artemis-iii\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Artemis III<\/a>\u00a0will test critical rendezvous and docking capabilities between Orion and commercial human landing systems in low Earth orbit and advance plans to return astronauts to the lunar surface.\u00a0On June 9, NASA announced the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/news-release\/nasa-marches-toward-artemis-iii-mission-in-2027-names-crew-members\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Artemis III crew<\/a>\u00a0at Johnson Space Center in Houston, while\u00a0hardware for\u00a0future\u00a0missions is already in production\u00a0at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For Rodriguez, Artemis II&nbsp;demonstrated&nbsp;what is possible when thousands of people work toward a common goal,&nbsp;supporting&nbsp;NASA\u2019s&nbsp;vision&nbsp;of&nbsp;a sustained presence at the Moon&nbsp;and, ultimately,&nbsp;human&nbsp;missions to Mars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to take time to build this all up,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cBut we are off and running.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"\" class=\"nasa-gb-align-full width-full maxw-full padding-x-3 padding-y-0 hds-module hds-module-full alignfull wp-block-nasa-blocks-related-articles\">\n<section class=\"hds-related-articles padding-x-0 padding-y-3 desktop:padding-top-7 desktop:padding-bottom-9\">\n<div class=\"w-100 grid-row grid-container maxw-widescreen padding-0 text-align-left\">\n<div class=\"margin-bottom-4\">\n<h2 style=\"max-width: 100%;\" class=\"width-full w-full maxw-full\">Explore More<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"grid-row grid-container maxw-widescreen padding-0\">\n<div class=\"grid-col-12 desktop:grid-col-4 margin-bottom-4 desktop:margin-bottom-0 desktop:padding-right-3\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/humans-in-space\/i-am-artemis-jason-peterson\/\" class=\"color-carbon-black\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"margin-bottom-2\">\n<div class=\"hds-cover-wrapper cover-hover-zoom bg-carbon-black minh-mobile\">\n<figure class=\"hds-media-background  \"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ssc-20260609-s00589.jpg?w=300\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium\" alt=\"\" style=\"transform: scale(1);
