Passengers on one of London\u2019s biggest commuter networks are set to benefit from a multimillion-pound new fleet of trains \u2014 but will likely have to wait until the end of the decade to board them.<\/p>\n
An article on The Standard website says Southeastern, which operates out of Victoria, Charing Cross and Cannon Street, hopes the investment in its \u201cmetro\u201d network in south-east London and Kent will help lure more people back onto the trains and into the office.<\/p>\n
It has taken an \u201cimportant step\u201d towards securing the new trains by inviting five shortlisted firms to bid for the contract to make them, likely to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds.<\/p>\n

An article on the BBC website says East Riding of Yorkshire Council has launched a consultation on the proposal, which would also include bus stops and a car park with almost 500 spaces.<\/p>\n
The Melton Interchange would address \u201csignificant capacity issues\u201d at peak times at North Ferriby and Brough stations, according to consultation documents.<\/p>\n
The area is undergoing significant development, including the construction of an Amazon distribution centre, which is due to bring up to 2,000 jobs to the Melton West business park.<\/p>\n
Work to build the 3.5 mile Bromford Tunnel bringing high speed trains into Birmingham has taken a leap forward as excavation of the 22 metre deep west portal is completed.<\/p>\n
The portal at Washwood Heath has been finished in readiness for the two 1,600 tonne tunnel boring machines (TBMs) building the twin-bore tunnel to complete their journeys from Water Orton in North Warwickshire.<\/p>\n
The huge earthworks operation has taken a team of 130 people from HS2\u2019s construction partner Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) nine months to complete.<\/p>\n

The Jubilee line extension connects Green Park with the Docklands.<\/p>\n
All 11 stations along the route were designed by architect Roland Paoletti to herald the new millennium.<\/p>\n
