{"id":4469,"date":"2024-01-23T03:37:56","date_gmt":"2024-01-22T17:37:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=4469"},"modified":"2024-01-23T03:37:56","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T17:37:56","slug":"troon-station-rebuild-comes-out-of-the-ground-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=4469","title":{"rendered":"Troon station rebuild comes out of the ground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Network Rail<\/a> has taken another significant step forward in the rebuild of the platform one building at Troon station.<\/p>\n<p>Engineers have installed the steel which forms the framework of the structure and creates the footprint for the new building at the station in South Ayrshire.<\/p>\n<p>The framework has 127 pieces of pre-fabricated steel extending more than 400m in length and weighing approximately nine tonnes in total.<\/p>\n<p>This was lifted into position by a tele-handler and bolted in place by operatives working from mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).<\/p>\n<p>Engineers will pour the concrete slab that will become the floor of the building as part of the next phase.<\/p>\n<p>Louise McSmith, Network Rail\u2019s project manager for the Troon station redevelopment said: \u201cWe are pleased with progress since the return to work following the festive break.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worked around the clock to erect the steel framework and with it in place, you begin to really get a sense of the scale of the new building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPassengers using the station have paused on their way through to take a look at the ongoing works and the reaction to see the building coming out of the ground has been really positive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the 2021 fire, the canopies and platform one building were destroyed. Network Rail has worked with partners, stakeholders and the community since to develop the design of the reconstructed building.<\/p>\n<p>The new platform one building is being rebuilt to modern standards and will include a ticket office and waiting area, as well as a \u2018changing places\u2019 facility for people with disabilities and their carers.<\/p>\n<p>Network Rail with lead-contractor AMCOGiffen, is working towards completing the construction of the station building ahead of The Open golf being held in Troon in July 2024.<\/p>\n<p><em>Photo credit: Network Rail<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Network Rail has taken another significant step forward in the rebuild of the platform one building at Troon station.
