By working even more closely with industry experts and accessing the latest research and best practice Translink can draw on the very latest expertise and innovation from across the wider rail industry – helping to strengthen safety, support service performance and ensure long-term sustainability of rail travel”.

RSSB Chief Executive Mark Phillips said: “It’s a pleasure to formally welcome Translink as an RSSB Member, building on a five-year Affiliate relationship that has seen us work closely with the Department for Infrastructure, the railway across Northern Ireland and Ireland, and the Irish rail regulator. As a vertically integrated rail and bus operator with a fast-growing network, Translink brings a perspective that is increasingly relevant as Britain moves towards its own integrated model through Great British Railways. Closer membership means we can do even more together to support safety, performance, economic and social value.”

Building on a relationship established in 2019, Translink became a full RSSB member on 1 January 2026 under a new ‘Special Regional Rail Membership’ – the first organisation to hold this status. This enhanced role provides access to a wide range of specialist tools, research, and industry insight.

The partnership is particularly important as Northern Ireland’s rail network operates across both EU and UK rail frameworks. Closer collaboration with RSSB supports Translink in navigating this complexity while maintaining high standards and continued access to specialist expertise.

The visit also provided an opportunity to explore future areas of collaboration, with a shared focus on putting safety, sustainability, and passengers at the heart of rail services.

Translink has welcomed senior leaders from the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) to Northern Ireland, marking a key milestone in a strengthened partnership focused on delivering safe, reliable, and future-ready rail services for passengers.
