{"id":446438,"date":"2026-06-05T21:14:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T11:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=194289"},"modified":"2026-06-05T21:14:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T11:14:00","slug":"north-west-travel-update-ahead-of-weekend-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=446438","title":{"rendered":"North West travel update ahead of weekend upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/infrastructure\/north-west-travel-update-ahead-of-weekend-upgrades\/\" title=\"North West travel update ahead of weekend upgrades\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/05115035\/Wigan-Wallgate-and-North-Western-stations_cropped-1-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/05115035\/Wigan-Wallgate-and-North-Western-stations_cropped-1-485x360.jpg 485w, https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/05115035\/Wigan-Wallgate-and-North-Western-stations_cropped-1-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rail passengers in the&nbsp;North West&nbsp;have been warned to&nbsp;plan ahead&nbsp;this weekend as&nbsp;upgrade work continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June no trains will run between Warrington Bank Quay and Wigan North Western.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is due to ongoing engineering work, including overhead line renewals and track work taking place throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is all part of the ongoing \u00a3400m investment&nbsp;programme&nbsp;in the West Coast Main Line&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp; Europe\u2019s&nbsp;busiest mixed-use railway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This work will improve reliability and reduce disruption on the vital route, which connects major locations including&nbsp;London,&nbsp;Birmingham, Manchester,&nbsp;Glasgow&nbsp;and Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the coming weekend there will be rail replacement buses in place between Warrington and Wigan, calling at Warrington.&nbsp;Avanti West Coast services running to Scotland will be diverting via Manchester.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pip Hoskins, principal programme sponsor for Network&nbsp;Rail, said:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cOur teams have been working hard in the&nbsp;North West&nbsp;to improve overhead lines and track in key areas.&nbsp;These projects will improve reliability and keep this vital section of railway running well for years to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe know there is never&nbsp;a good time&nbsp;to close the&nbsp;railway&nbsp;but we have worked with our train operator partners to limit disruption to passengers and keep people on the move as much as possible.
