Jim Chalmers<\/a> has been slammed as ‘tone deaf’ after his wife Laura turned heads in a $1,900 designer outfit that would cost most Australians a week’s worth of pay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former political advisor-turned magazine editor, 40, wore an $899 yellow Carla Zampatti dress and a matching $999 jacket as she supported her husband while he handed down the 2024-25 Budget on Tuesday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The power couple shared a sweet kiss at the commencement of his speech with two of their three young children also attending the special night.<\/p>\n\n\n

However, it wasn’t long before Aussies took offence to Ms Chalmer’s $1,900 outfit with some calling her decision to wear the designer gown as ‘top tier tone deaf’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The matter was made worse after it re-emerged Dr Chalmers earns more than $420,000 a year as Treasurer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
