Freight wagon manufacturer Greenbrier now holds all the cards relating to Helrom\u2019s intermodal wagons. The former acquired the wagons after the first Helrom insolvency proceedings concluded in January, including intellectual property. William Glenn, President of Greenbrier Europe, told RailFreight.com what is happening with the wagons in light of Helrom’s exit from the market.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Most of the Helrom wagons, officially named Megaswing, have been with a Greenbrier leasing company since early 2026. Some 30 wagons remained with the German intermodal semi-trailer specialist, but those will now also be subject to insolvency proceedings. Greenbrier could acquire those last wagons, says Glenn.<\/p>\n

That seems to be a likely scenario: no one can use the Megaswing wagons without a Greenbrier license. However, it is not yet known what will happen with the wagons now that Helrom is disappearing from the market. William Glenn explains that they are available to lease, but Greenbrier is open to talking about selling them.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Greenbrier can build more Megaswing wagons. In total, there are around 220 on the market at the time of writing.<\/p>\n
