The former acquired the wagons after the first Helrom insolvency proceedings concluded in January, including intellectual property. William Glenn, President of Greenbrier Europe, told RailFreight.com what is happening with the wagons in light of Helrom&#8217;s exit from the market.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-71476\"><\/span>Most of the Helrom wagons, officially named Megaswing, have been with a Greenbrier leasing company since early 2026. Some 30 wagons remained with the German intermodal semi-trailer specialist, but those will now also be subject to insolvency proceedings. Greenbrier could acquire those last wagons, says Glenn.<\/p>\n<p>That seems to be a likely scenario: no one can use the Megaswing wagons without a Greenbrier license. However, it is not yet known what will happen with the wagons now that Helrom is disappearing from the market. William Glenn explains that they are available to lease, but Greenbrier is open to talking about selling them.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Greenbrier can build more Megaswing wagons. In total, there are around 220 on the market at the time of writing.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2026\/05\/29\/helrom-to-be-liquidated\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Helrom-thing-128x128.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2026\/05\/29\/helrom-to-be-liquidated\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">Helrom to be liquidated: missed opportunities prove fatal<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>Megaswing 2.0<\/h2>\n<p>The Greenbrier Europe president explains that the wagons can be refined to lower the production and operational costs. The company has \u201clearned a lot\u201d about the design of the wagon after building several hundreds of them. Greenbrier engineers are \u201cgoing to work through the little tweaks to improve it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Helrom going out of business, the wagons\u2019 new owner seems optimistic about the future of the technology. &#8220;There is room for an improved Megaswing 2.0, but the first generation wagons work just fine&#8221;, Glenn says.<\/p>\n<p>Helrom\u2019s concept was built around precision and scheduled railway operations, Glenn adds. On-time delivery and significantly higher service levels were a core part of its offering.
