Gibson\u2019s Engineering,<\/a> a leader in the field of train manufacturing, maintenance and repairs, is immensely proud to announce the opening of its new engineering facility at the world famous St Rollox rail depot in Springburn, Glasgow.\u202f<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Affectionately referred to\u202flocally\u202fas \u2018The Caley\u2019, this\u202ficonic and\u202fimportant historic site is poised to play a pivotal role in preserving and\u202fbuilding on\u202fScotland\u2019s\u202frich heritage of railway engineering.\u202fIt\u202fis the largest\u202fmanufacturing,\u202fmaintenance and\u202frepair\u202frail\u202fdepot in Scotland, and the\u202fsecond largest in the UK.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The re-opening of the Glasgow facility will create employment opportunities for engineers, coachbuilders, project managers and apprentices, with the aim to expand the Gibson\u2019s Engineering workforce to over 1,000 employees over the next five years and hopefully 5,000 over the next 10 years. The facility\u2019s skilled workforce will build new trains, maintain existing fleets and carry out repairs,\u202fsuch as accident damage and vehicle overhaul.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The depot will serve as a one-stop shop for train manufacturing, maintenance and repairs, ensuring the seamless operation of light and heavy rolling stock.\u202fSt Rollox intends to have a\u202ffully electrified rail line from its buildings to the mainline, between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and will be the only active wheel-shop facility in Scotland.\u202fGibson\u2019s\u202fnew engineering facility\u202fwill allow\u202fthe site to once again\u202fplay a prominent role in transforming\u202fthe railway engineering industry in the UK over the next few decades and beyond.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Gibson\u2019s Engineering is led by father and son duo, Dougie and Fraser Gibson. They and their team are dedicated to delivering superior quality products that not only enhance the global transportation landscape, but they are also committed to reducing environmental impact.\u202fThe directors and management team, with a combined experience of over 300 years in rail transport engineering, has a reputation for innovation, reliability and craftsmanship.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Following the closure of the depot in 2019 by an investment fund, businessman David Moulsdale purchased the facility in 2021 and had a vision for the revitalisation of this landmark as a train engineering depot. Over \u00a310 million has already been invested by David including the purchase price of the facility, refurbishment and ongoing maintenance of the buildings. <\/span><\/span>Businessman & Philanthropist David Moulsdale said<\/span><\/span>: \u201cI\u202fwas born and raised just three miles from \u2018The Caley\u2019. I\u202fvividly recall the enormous impact this unique engineering powerhouse had on\u202fme, and on\u202fthe Greater Glasgow and broader Scottish community.\u202fI\u2019m\u202fextremely confident that\u202four\u202fambition to see significantly larger-scale employment of engineers, coachbuilders, project managers and apprentices in the North of Glasgow will come to fruition.
