DB Cargo\u2019s workers will start on Tuesday 23 January at 6 pm, while for infrastructure workers the initiative will begin on Wednesday 24 January at 2 am, as GDL mentioned.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-49466\"><\/span>The cause of the strike is the third offer made by DB to GDL throughout these rounds of negotiations, with the latter considering it unsatisfactory and once again calling for industrial action instead. Another strike occurred just a couple of weeks ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2024\/01\/08\/germany-braces-for-a-week-of-rail-strikes\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">between 9-12 January<\/a>, with DB trying in vain to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/specials\/2024\/01\/10\/gdl-strike-confirmed-as-valid-what-will-it-mean-for-rail-freight\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">appeal<\/a> against it in various courts. The impact of this walkout was felt also by companies not affiliated with DB or GDL. It remains to be seen if the one that is about to hit Germany will have an even bigger one.<\/p>\n<h2>Strikes are getting longer<\/h2>\n<p>This will be the fourth round of strikes called by GDL concerning the negotiations with DB for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/business\/2024\/01\/05\/db-takes-german-locomotive-drivers-union-to-court-over-strike-dispute\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">new collective bargaining agreement<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/business\/2023\/11\/16\/strikes-back-in-the-german-timetable-at-least-270-freight-trains-cancelled\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">first one<\/a> was in mid-November and lasted 20 hours. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2023\/12\/07\/german-train-drivers-launch-another-strike-worsening-massive-backlog\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">second one<\/a>, in early December, went on for 28 hours. The most recent one mentioned above continued for three full days, and now it will be a week.
