An Indigenous elder who was booed at the Anzac Day Dawn Service while delivering a \u2018Welcome to Country\u2019 has denied he misused the legally protected word Anzac to sell a range of hoodies, shirts, trackies and sneakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark Brown, features clothing items on his \u2018Dreaming Spirit\u2019 website with the legally protected word \u2018Anzac\u2019 in the product title, starting at $90 for T-shirts and up to $180 for hoodies and puffer jackets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo clarify, I have not used the word Anzac on the merchandise in question\u201d Mr Brown said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am aware of commentary online, however much of it reflects misunderstanding and, at times, hostility toward Aboriginal people\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under Australian law, the word \u201cAnzac\u201d is heavily restricted in relation to some official and commercial uses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark Brown clearly uses the word \u201cAnzac\u201d to sell his unauthorised merchandise. He has never served in the Military and is now trying to cash in on it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is an insult to all who have served. It remains to be seen whether the law will apply to him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
