The Croatian rail infrastructure manager H\u017d Infrastruktura has signed a 278-million euro contract for an upgrade on the Zagreb-Rijeka railway line. The Spanish company COMSA will carry out the works, which will see a boost to capacity on the route to the Rijeka port.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>More specifically, the upgrade will take place on the 44-kilometre long Hrvatski Leskovac – Karlovac railway section. COMSA will reconstruct the existing track and add a second track. It will also electrify the railway and replace signalling, safety and communication devices.The project should be completed by 2029.<\/p>\n

The Croatian government sees the investment as an important step towards a modernised and harmonised railway system. \u201cRailways is a sector that has been neglected for a long time, but in this ten-year period we plan to invest almost 6 billion euros in its reconstruction\u201d, commented Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Butkovi\u0107.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe modernisation of this section is significant for the construction of a lowland railway that has strategic importance for the Republic of Croatia, not only in the context of freight transport, the development of the Port of Rijeka, but also in the geopolitical situation and strengthening our country’s position on trans-European transport corridors.\u201d<\/p>\n
