The initiative aims at boosting intermodal traffic, FS said.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-70755\"><\/span>Rumours about this deal started to surface more than a year ago. At the time, it was said that CFI might pick up single wagonload volumes, while FS Logistix (still called Mercitalia) would focus on block train traffic. This was not confirmed, but the focus on intermodal explicitly mentioned by FS might be a sign in that direction.<\/p>\n<p>CFI\u2019s position in the Italian rail freight market is quite important. In 2022, the company had an 11% market share, making it the main private entity together with Captrain Italy. With this new agreement, FS Logistix further strengthened its position as market leader.
