The year was characterised by record-breaking numbers in the first and last quarter of the year.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-70712\"><\/span>Overall, the largest increases between 2024 and 2025 were recorded in Intermodal Transport Units (+4.9%) and TEUs (+7.4%), reaching 1.83 million and 2.92 million respectively. Regarding total weight and transport performance, the increases were +2.6% (28.38 million tonnes) and +2.8% (9.61 billion tonnes-kilometre).<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/intermodal\/2025\/07\/30\/data-of-the-week-polish-intermodal-share-reaches-record-high\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">first quarter<\/a>, the record-breaking figures related to ITUs and TEUs, while in the last one they concerned weight and performance. PKP Cargo and PCC Intermodal continue to be the main providers of intermodal services in Poland with a fifth of the market each, while DB Cargo Polska comes in third with 11%.<\/p>\n<h2>Untapped semi-trailers potential<\/h2>\n<p>Intermodal volumes in Poland have been growing since 2023, but they still occupy a small part of the rail freight market. This is because in Poland many services are for bulk cargo. Moreover, as UTK pointed out, there is still a significant untapped potential for the rail transport of semi-trailers.<\/p>\n<p>Over 90% intermodal transport services in the country are for containers, while semi-trailers only account for 5.2%. Two notable initiatives were launched last year to boost this type of transport. One pilot led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/intermodal\/2025\/07\/25\/dfds-launches-rotterdam-poland-rail-link-for-semi-trailers\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">DFDS<\/a> connecting Rotterdam to Karsznice and one new service by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/intermodal\/2025\/09\/29\/helrom-sends-first-train-to-poland\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Helrom<\/a> between D\u00fcsseldorf and Katowice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Intermodal transport in Poland grew under all categories in 2025, according to data from the Polish Office of Transport (UTK).
