However, Switzerland might now extend the heavy road traffic tax and bring it up to date with current requirements.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-70690\"><\/span>The Swiss Commission of transport and telecommunications of the Council of State approved the measure at the end of last week. Other than adding electric trucks to the vehicles paying the heavy road traffic tax, the proposal asks that changes to the tax categories need to be communicated seven years in advance to ensure predictability.<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of heavy vehicles running in Switzerland now fall under the category paying the lowest road tax, according to Swiss media LaRegione. Hence the need for a reform, especially if those funds will be used to incentivise rail freight.
