Spain is now introducing a financial compensation scheme to help rail freight operators using diesel locomotives. The scheme will have a total budget of 3.15 million euros and will cover the whole of 2026.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-70618\"><\/span>Companies will get 15,000 euros for every active diesel locomotive in their fleet as a compensation for the higher fuel prices. \u201cThe goal is to prevent a loss of competitiveness of the railway compared to other modes of transport and to guarantee its continuity in the logistics system\u201d, said Spain\u2019s transport minister Oscar Puente.<\/p>\n<h2>Road and sea get help too<\/h2>\n<p>The measure is part of a new Royal Decree-Law introduced yesterday by the Spanish government. The package also includes actions aimed at supporting road and maritime freight transport. For the road, the objective is to \u201censure that fuel price fluctuations are effectively passed on to transport costs\u201d, the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, the new law strengthens the nature of the review of transport prices when fuel costs change and introduces the obligation to reflect these price fluctuations on the invoice to facilitate verification and guarantee transparency. Finally, there will be a penalty system for cases of non-compliance, the ministry added.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding maritime transport, the existing aid scheme is being extended to include freight services between Spain\u2019s mainland ports and the ones in the Balearic and Canary archipelagos, such as Palma, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
