The company, part of the Adani Group, reached the milestone total across its expanding global network of maritime assets and logistics hubs. This performance, states APSEZ, underscores the rapid growth of the Indian infrastructure sector and the company’s evolving role in facilitating international trade and domestic industrial expansion.

The achievement reflects a major shift in operational scale since the firm began operations in 1998. Starting from a single port vision, APSEZ has evolved into a significant platform for India’s global trade. Management believes this volume demonstrates the effectiveness of their long-term investment strategy and operational discipline. The company now looks toward doubling this figure within the next four years. This trajectory aligns with broader national goals to enhance maritime throughput and logistics efficiency.

Rapid growth and infrastructure expansion

The journey to 500 million tonnes has been defined by an acceleration of ambitions. While the company required sixteen years to reach its first 100 million tonnes, subsequent milestones have been achieved much faster. Efficiency gains across the network have allowed the operator to handle larger volumes with improved turnaround times for vessels.

Chairman Gautam Adani (Adani Group)

Chairman Gautam Adani noted that ports serve as essential gateways for national confidence and economic destiny. “Ports are not merely gateways for trade, they are gateways to national confidence, competitiveness and destiny. I am grateful to our customers, partners, and every member of the APSEZ family. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the Central and State Governments, whose policy and commitment to infrastructure have helped create the foundation on which APSEZ has grown.”

Integrated logistics and maritime network

The operator currently manages 15 ports and terminals around India. These facilities are supplemented by four international ports situated on strategic east-west global shipping corridors. Together, they command approximately 28% of the total port volumes in India. According to APSEZ, the current total cargo handling capacity of the group stands at 633 million tonnes per annum. The company remains a dominant player in the regional maritime sector.

Beyond maritime operations, the firm has established a robust inland presence covering 95% of the Indian hinterland. The logistics division operates 12 multimodal logistics parks and a fleet of 132 trains. Additionally, more than 20,000 trucks and 25 agricultural silos support the movement of diverse cargo types. The company has nearly 280,000 square metres of warehousing space at its disposal.

Future targets and sustainability goals

Management has set a clear target to handle one billion tonnes of cargo by the year 2030. This ambitious goal reflects the company’s confidence in the continued growth of the Indian economy. The group intends to maintain its lead by further investments in technology and automation, and in expanding its port network and logistics capabilities.

Sustainability remains a core component of the long-term strategy for the integrated transport utility. The firm was recently recognised among the top five per cent of global transportation infrastructure companies. This ranking was based on the 2025 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment. APSEZ says five of its ports featured prominently in the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index for 2024. These accolades highlight a commitment to combining massive scale with environmentally responsible and efficient operations.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has announced it has handled over 500 million tonnes of cargo.

[12340,20048,12341,72,12152,20049,14203,553,471
12159
post-402179","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-adani","category-adani-group","category-apsez","category-business","category-business-commerce-miscellaneous","category-gautam-adani","category-general-cargo","category-india","category-news","tag-world-cargo-news
["GET
