Metro services for communities in Sydney\u2019s southwest are one step closer with a joint venture between John Holland<\/a> Pty Ltd and Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction Pty Ltd to deliver the final package of works to convert the almost 130-year-old T3 Bankstown Line to modern metro standards.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The major works to be delivered along the 13-kilometre alignment from Marrickville to Bankstown include:<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Significant upgrades at Bankstown \u2013 construction of a new metro station; modifying and building new infrastructure and systems to allow for continued Sydney Trains operations at Bankstown Station when metro services commence; and precinct work for a new cross corridor plaza between The Appian Way and Restwell Street<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Completion works to convert nine stations to metro standards\u202fincluding the installation of wayfinding and upgrades to station buildings and structures<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Completion of overhead wiring and final track alignment work.<\/p>\n

Upgrade works are continuing on the T3 Bankstown Line<\/a> with crews working around the clock during a recent 12-day school holiday closure to deliver the first\u00a0mechanical gap fillers\u00a0external site <\/span><\/a>at Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Hurlstone Park, Canterbury and Campsie stations \u201389 of the total 170 mechanical gap fillers were installed.<\/p>\n

Major works were also undertaken to construct the new metro platforms at Bankstown, having installed the structural steel and precast panels, and completing a concrete pour crucial to the platform\u2019s overall structure.<\/p>\n

These works mark some of the major preparations needed before the final 12-month shutdown of the line starting later this year, set to take place after the launch of City metro services between Chatswood and Sydenham.<\/p>\n

Southwest commuters are already benefiting from metro\u00a0upgrade works to their stations\u00a0external site <\/span><\/a>and when metro services are extended from Sydenham to Bankstown, commuters will have access to fast and reliable public transport with record travel times with a train arriving every four minutes in the peak.<\/p>\n
