Police are investigating whether vehicle trouble or driver error caused a car to collide with a large freight train west on Geelong on Tuesday morning, killing two people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency services were called to the incident at a railway crossing on Reddies Road in the small town of Cressy about 10:15am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 35-year-old Beeac man and a 22-year-old Cororooke man died at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Australian Rail Track Corporation, the national body for freight and passenger train services, said two train drivers working at the time were not physically injured and were assisting police with their enquiries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambulance Victoria said it did not treat anyone else at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday afternoon, Victoria Police sergeant Jake Andrews said the level crossing was marked by a sign only and there were no boom gates, signals or lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our understanding is the vehicle travelling south \u2014 that was hit by the train \u2014 had come to a brief stop before entering the train line,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
